Facebook Timeline Hack

It will be some time before the general public gets to have a look at the new drastic changes at facebook. The Timeline feature is about the biggest design overhaul facebook has gone since the company was founded in 2004. I haven’t been a big fan of facebook’s design changes most of the time they have been cheap rip-offs of other competitors design, remember the news feed that looked like that of twitter, but this time around Mark Zuckerberg and team have struck on gold with this design. It is easy to use and feels very good. The idea of a big cover picture is inspired and the whole idea of being able to go back through time and look at your older post is simply well “awesome”.

As I said earlier this design isn’t out yet for the general public but for all the curious cats there is a developer’s workaround to get this awesome feature right now. Luckily for us, the whole process of turning into a developer on facebook is very easy and can be done within seconds. In this post I will give you step by step instructions on how to get access to the revolutionary product, Timeline.

Step 1:

First log on to facebook and enable developer mode. The easiest way to do this is to get on to facebook search and type in “developer” and click the first result. It should look like this.

Step 2:

You’ll have to retype your password and allow the developer app basic access to your account before you see a screen that looks something like this

This is the basic developer’s page and now we get on to making facebook think we are actual developers.

Step 3:

Click the on the, “Create New App” button on the top left. You should get a page like the one shown below:

Just fill out the App display name and App namespace forms with anything you like. The App namespace should have all the characters in lowercase then agree to the terms and conditions and click on the continue button. This should take you to a security check window. Fill it out and continue ahead.

Step 4:

After you have done the above step you should see something like this on your browser.

Click on the link labeled “Open Graph” on the left to open up the Open Graph Getting Started page. To get started with Open Graph, you’ve got to fill in an action your app can do and an object for your app to interact with. This can be any verb and noun. (For example our app here comments and interacts with the articles). This should look like this.

Step 5:

After you’ve created your action and object, click the Get Started button. This will drop down the first of three pages of settings .Quickly click through them to create your app. When you’re done, you should see a page like this:

And you are in. Facebook now officially considers you as a developer. Just wait a few minutes for your new developer status to filter through the system. Then return to the Facebook homepage where you should find an invite for Timeline at the top of the screen.

Accept the invitation and you are in. Your profile page will undergo a major change and will look absolutely fantastic. It is important to note here that the timeline feature is still under development but don’t get worried about that. It’s easy to use and customize, use the Take the Tour Button on the top to familiarize yourself with the new changes.

Enjoy yourself, Happy facebooking!!
